As demand for land increases across the country, land for military installations has not been spared. President Museveni has been named again in a nationwide giveaway land bonanza, his latest giveaway being the Uganda People’s Defence Forces’ land for causalities in Mubende district, witnessradio.org can reveal.
According to a letter written by ministry of Lands to Mubende Chief Administrative Officer, Museveni directed that 20 acre of land be carved out of UPDF’s Mubende Rehabilitation Centre barracks to be given to one Sheriff Abdulallo Ahamed, an investor from Kenya.
The letter states that the given out land would be used by the investor to put up a coffee-processing plant.
The same investor has been given unspecified size of land at Nshara Livestock Farm in Mbarara district to set up an abattoir project, according to the same letter from ministry of land signed by one E.W Ogaro.
This is not the first military installation land to be given out to ‘investors’. witnessradio.org has documented several land giveaways namely; Kitante land that belonged to Chieftaincy of Military intelligence (CMI) given out to city tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia, Mbuya barracks land which was allocated to undisclosed private individual and issued with titles and Mbuya army primary school land was given to again yet to be disclosed private individual to build a private hospital.
Other forces’ land affected by unending Nationwide giveaways to unnamed private developers include; Nsambya police barracks land, Wandegeya police barracks land, Katwe police barracks land, Kabalagala police barracks land, old Kampala and Kawempe police barracks, among others. All police lands were given out under the government’s Public Private Partnership arrangement.
In the case, of Mubende causality facility, anonymous sources intimated to witnessradio.org that the Kenyan investor turned darling to Ugandan Government acquired the land in May this year without paying any penny and the construction of the coffee-processing plant is scheduled to commence this September.
