Five people including an entire village leadership have been arrested by police in Mityana district after the murder of Mulinde Kamada Kimbugwe who was passing off as a landlord.

Those arrested and are now being detained at Mityana police station since August 8, 2019, include Minaana local council one Chairperson Ibrahim Muyingo, his vice Chairman Robert Munyagwa, defence secretary Badesta Kasule, their resident John Kalumba and his wife whose yet particulars are yet to be disclosed.

Kimbugwe, according to local police was hacked to death by unknown assailants on August 7. Apparently,  he had gone to serve invitation letters to some land tenants in the village. The said letters were inviting the residents to attend a meeting organized by the State Minister for land Persis Namuganza, which was slated to take place on August 13, 2019.

witnessradio.org has established that the local council leadership was arrested ironically after a complaint was lodged at the police by Muyingo only to be arrested.

“Our chairperson called Wabigalo police post to report the murder incident in his area but he was tricked by police and was asked to physically go to the police post and be given a chit, which was to be delivered to Mityana police station. He honoured the request and upon reaching the police station, he was arrested and put in police cells” one village resident who preferred anonymity said in reference to Muyingo.

The land under contest is occupied by over 500 families and measures up to one-square-mile covering four villages of Minaana, Kabule, Galabi and Kamuvole, all located in Tamu Division, Mityana Municipality

Available documents seen by witnessradio.org, indicate that Kimbugwe surfaced in 2016 or thereabout and started claiming ownership of the land.  Thereafter it’s said that started selling plots of land to hundreds of bonafide and one businesswoman from Kampala Milly Nassali who bought 200 acres, which were part the square mile.
