At least 100 people who were evicted from land belonging to Kayebe Forest in Kitenga and Kigando sub-counties in Mubende district are gripped in immense fear for their lives due to lack of shelter and food.
Led by John Ngabirano, Sarah Tumuhayise and Amos Muhumuza, the desperate evictees resolved to take refuge at the offices of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Florence Beyunga last week demanding her to get them land and houses.
However, the RDC flatly ignored their demands, saying that those evictees could have gone to her predecessor and the person who reportedly sold them land in the gazatted government forest through fraudulently thus ordering them to vacate her office premises.
But, the evictees defied RDC’s order to vacate her office premises, propelling her to issue orders to police to evict them from that police forcefully which forced them to occupy the neighboring vacant land belonging to Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) where they are still camped up to now.
However, helpless evictees who camped at the UNRA’s land with their children are decrying the difficulty environment of scarcity of every basic necessity of life ranging from food, drinks and toilets with fears that it could lead them to contracting killer diseases.

Land grabbing threatens three villages in Mubende Over 3000 residents are facing eviction off their land that covers three villages in Mubende district, the villages’ leaders have said.
The three chairpersons that are crying foul on behalf of their subjects include; Johnson Ssajjaguma (Kyamukona central village), Mubarak Bwambale (Kyamukona central), and James Ategeka (Kyamukona West).
The villages’ leaders whose areas are located in Buwekula county, accuse Mubende district officials of covertly conniving with one Samuel Wambi Mumali to allocate the later ownership of the land in question without their knowledge.
The land which is now in dispute measures 1,939,970 hectares situated on block 240, plot 12.
Despite leaders’ insistence that the existing land law allows tenants the first opportunity to assume legitimate ownership of land before selling it to a new proprietor, Mamali asserts that he has no intentions to evict any of the tenants on his land.
He said that he is only intending to survey his land and the process ends, but timid tenants are pessimistic.
